Nokia Collaborates with IISc to Design Advanced Robotics, AI, and Automation Solutions
Finland-based eminent multinational telecommunications company Nokia has decided to start a ‘Center of Excellence’ in India. The company plans to boost scientific research in the areas of Robotics, 5G, and AI to bring reformative changes in the sectors like agriculture, emergency management, and industrial automation.
Nokia joins hands with the renowned Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to make the best out of this research endeavor. IISc will provide its in-house expertise in algorithms, drones, and robotic systems to help make advanced tech applications. It is believed that Nokia and IISc will also collaborate with academia, general industry, and start-ups to deliver something meaningful at a faster pace.
As per one senior company official of Nokia, the proposed ‘Center of Excellence’ will work on various things like collecting information on the area of an emergency situation for analysis before first responders arrive, using 5G drones for remote management of agricultural orchards, and anticipating crop fires.
“Emerging technologies such as the 5G have the potential to enable an entirely new array of use cases with a profound societal impact. With Nokia’s rich innovation heritage, we aim to engage with the bright and young minds at IISc to nurture and advance the latest technologies that can benefit communities. We are confident that it will lead to the development of groundbreaking use cases,” said Sanjay Malik, Senior Vice President and Head of India Market at Nokia.
